Some time ago the actress Angie Harmon spoke out against President Obama and his policies of running the country. She stated that he was even more "inexperienced" than Sarah Palin.
For speaking out against the president, she has been labeled by some as a racist. She has vehemently denied that his ethnicity is the source of her dislike of him and instead says that the reason is she doesn't like the way he's running the country.
Speaking out against President Obama makes you a racist? That's wrong and hypocritical on a number of levels.
To begin with racism is not the root of everything. There are many people in this country who believe that Obama and his policies are simply not right for this country. I myself believe this.
Does that make me a racist? I should say not.
I could care less about his ethnicity, gender or even his sexual orientation. I focus more on his policies. I didn't even care about his ethnicity back when he was campaigning. I was looking at his policies and how he was going to run the country and even then I didn't like them.
I did believe that the country was ready for a president who was an African American, a woman or even a homosexual, just not him. And people should also remember that racism is not exclusively from those who are white.
Next, if people want to talk about discrimination they can look at the attitudes given toward Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.
The media and most of the country didn't like either of them. I believe that they were against the idea of a female president and I also think that most of the American people clearly didn't want one. It clearly states sexism.
Next, the idea that these people are calling Harmon a racist is showing the hypocrisy of the Left. They are claiming that people can not be speaking against their leader when in fact they were doing the same thing with President Bush. It seems unfair to me that they can just criticize one president, but try to take the privilege where another is concerned.
This type of behavior is dispelling the long held belief that the Democratic Party is the party of freedom, equality and civil rights. It says to me that they believe that these beliefs apply to everyone, but only if they subscribe to the beliefs of the Left.
Although both sides do this, since the Democratic Party claims to be the party of equality, double standards look worse on its members. So if they're going to go making these claims, they should try to mean it.
Harmon, who is a registered Republican, has also blasted Obama's little stint on Jay Leno's show, which I also disliked, as distasteful. "I also think if W. or John McCain or Reagan would have gone and done a talk show, the backlash would have been so huge and in his face, and 'What is our president doing? How unclassy!' But Obama does it and no one says anything," she said.
I must say that I found the entire event in poor taste. If he was doing this for popularity gain I have to ask, does he need to?
While some people who dislike him, there are even more who have the illusion that he's a god. There is a fine line between the political world and the entertainment world.
I believe that politicians should be politicians and celebrities should be celebrities. And that includes conservative celebrities such as Chuck Norris, Patricia Heaton and Dennis Miller. They can speak out against the president if they wish, but there has to be a limit. Celebrities are the entertainment and nothing more.
And as for Obama and why he was fooling around on talk shows instead of running the country, I can only hope he and all future presidents stay away from them forever.
It is also this type of attitude which is causing the conservatives to be afraid of being conservative. Too many have already become too weak to fight racial preferences because they are afraid that the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons of the world will call them bigots, as they have done with Harmon.
To put an end to her opposition to Obama, Harmon has even stated that Sarah Palin would have been better suited for the job. She also states her belief as to why the Democrats hated her. "I really think they're afraid of her and her morals, ethics and values and the fact that she hangs on them."
It seems accurate to me that the Democratic Party and most Americans are angry at the Republicans wishing that they would vanish. But here's a news flash: the Republican Party is not going to go away. The Republicans may be down now, but no one, not even President Obama has the power to kill their party.
I encourage conservatives to stand up for themselves and speak out against Obama if they wish. They could take a leaf out of Ann Coulter's book by speaking their mind and not care who they offend.
I would also like to state that anyone who hated and opposed Bush states that speaking against the president is a crime, then they had no right to speak against him. Double standards are not okay.
