Are you the next Hitchcock, Scorsese, or even Judd Apatow? Here is your chance to shine: Campus MovieFest is coming to Sonoma State.

Sponsored by Associated Student Productions, this is the second year that SSU is participating in the Campus MovieFest competition.

The annual event gives any movie lover the opportunity to experience the art of filmmaking.

Not only will the CMF squad give students the chance to learn about the technical side of making a film, but also those who complete their films will compete against each other and teams of students from other universities in the nationwide contest.

Campus MovieFest kicks off Sept. 11, with the actual filming by students running from Sept. 11 to Sept. 17.

Equipment is provided free of charge for students who are interested in the filmmaking competition.

Those who sign up will receive a digital camcorder, tripod, backpack, and an Apple laptop. The computer will be loaded with iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and thousands of songs to help the students produce their movie.

Students learn to use these popular tools to create a film they think can win the grand prize: having their movie shown in film festivals around the country.

In addition to cameras and laptops, the students will have the full support of MovieFest staff.

On campus all week in the Student Union, the staffers will be waiting to help students with editing, filming, or questions about anything involved with their projects.

SSU's finale will be held on Sept. 21 with the first place winners taking home engraved iPods.

The top films from Sonoma State will go on to compete regionally with schools such as Stanford, University of San Francisco, and UC Berkeley. The regional finale will be held at the famous California Theater in San Jose on Friday, Oct. 19.

Campus MovieFest started at Georgia's Emory University in 2000. The program was put on by Student Life Staff and quickly expanded to other universities.

Currently, the event is held at numerous campuses nationwide and the United Kingdom, giving budding young filmmakers a wonderful opportunity to learn hands on about movie production.

Last year, a Sonoma State team received top honors as one of the best of the year, ranking in the Top 15 of nationwide films for their movie "The Lost Toy."

If you want to put your skills to the test, or just learn about the process, the competition is open to anyone who wants to sign up.

Good luck!
