In its biggest year yet, Campus MovieFest honored the top 16 films made by students across the country in Atlanta on April 27, with one of Sonoma State's very own teams, "Family Guys," being named one of the best 15 in the nation.
Last October, Campus MovieFest gave Sonoma State students the chance to make their own short film. Providing cameras, laptops, and assistance in editing, MovieFest held a ceremony showing the top films of the School, with Team Family Guy's film "The Lost Toy" winning top honors.
Competing against universities across the country such as Boston University, Emerson College, Stanford University, Sonoma State University, Spelman College, Tufts University, and University of California Berkeley, Rich Fleming, Kevin Rapp and the rest of the Family Guys were honored at the National Grand Finale in Atlanta on April 27 as one of the best 15 films made by students across the country.
Campus MovieFest was started when four students at Emory University decided to see what would happen if they gave the freshman halls the chance to make their own movies. Founding Campus MovieFest as the result of a successful project, and eventually graduating and forming Ideas United, LLC, the vision of the students has come to be achieved at universities all over the country.
MovieFest not only gives students the chance to showcase their work, but also gives them invaluable experience in movie- making.
Ambitious film makers can not only receive help in editing and shooting, but are given the chance to create scores for their films with music from thousands of indie bands that participate in the project.
This year over 2,500 teams participated in MovieFest, making it the biggest year the program has ever had.
If you didn't get the chance to catch "The Lost Toy" last semester during the Campus MovieFest finals at SSU, you can watch it and the rest of the top honored short films at www.campusmoviefest.com.
