In a rare standoff, the Academic Senate voted to support a blood drive ban on April 24, despite the Associated Students, Inc.'s (ASI) resolution against the ban, which was adopted on April 2.

The Academic Senate said its goal was to uphold SSU's clear non-discrimination policy, which includes sex and gender discrimination.

THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE AS PROTOTYPE - Historian Richard Hovannisian, University of California, Los Angeles, presents a lecture on the Armenian Genocide. "The Armenian Genocide is in many respects the prototype of premeditated mass killing and ethnic cleansing from the early part of the twentieth century to the present," says Hovannisian.

I had been anxiously awaiting April 30 for weeks, eager to see what Police Services' active shooter drill would amount to. I was more curious as to how the community-students, faculty and bystanders caught in the midst-would react, rather than how the police would handle the actual exercise.

Outrageously priced hot dogs, loud obnoxious fans, and the crack of the bat, only a few of the things that keeps us all coming back every glorious baseball season. Yet, for San Francisco Giants fans, something was slightly askew.

Only a year ago AT&T Park was filled from top to bottom with fair-weather fans.

Pack your bags, strap on your shoes and prepare yourself for the journey of a lifetime. A recession has hit the U.S. economy and it looks like it is here for the long run. Foreclosures, rising gas prices, fewer jobs. No matter what it may be, almost everyone will find him or herself impacted by the recession.

You may have heard them called party animals, liars, and players, but deep down they are just a group of guys who want to have fun. That's right, they are our very own fraternities here at SSU.

I have only been to a few fraternity parties, which I happened to have a lot of fun at, but the only fraternity that I seemed to really enjoy and that really stuck out was the one and only, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity or who are better known as SAE.

One may wonder if it really is a problem to be constantly connected with technology. Right now I bet you are sitting at your desk, talking or texting or emailing, or all of the above. If you are doing all of the above give yourself a pat on the back. You are able to manage the one technique many people try and fail miserably at.

The gentlemen of Phi Delta Theta have finished yet another successful year of their annual philanthropy Teeter Totter event that helps raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research. Students may have noticed the presence of a blue and white teeter totter from April 30 to May 1, as well as a big cluster of fraternity guys and occasional girls, but this philanthropy proves to be more eventful than the eye can see.

I have always wondered why walking by the monkey cage at the zoo is more socially acceptable than walking past the cells of those incarcerated.

Willie Bird's Restaurant and Bar may not look like much from the outside, but on the inside you will find an enticing menu and lots of loyal regulars.

The menu has everything from seafood, to salads, to burgers, but its pride and joy is their turkey.

The quality and taste of the turkey landed Willie Bird's Restaurant and Bar a spot on Guy Fieri's show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Compilation albums usually signify a few things.

Most often, record labels decide to squeeze out a few dollars from a band that's not producing a steady enough income.

Or, they are honest to goodness efforts by the artist to give their fans songs that are very near and dear to them.

Part of going away to college is adjusting to a way of life other than that found in our hometowns.

At SSU, students come from a variety of places, including big cities, posh suburbs, and small towns. It is this last category that we learn to understand in Mary McGarry Morris's novel, "Songs in Ordinary Time.

Last weekend's home stand for the Seawolves baseball team was the last one of the season, and the fireworks were aplenty when they took on the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Emotions ran high in the series as the Toro's head coach and catcher, Marin Conde, were both ejected in game one for arguing with umpires en route to a 4-2 victory over the Seawolves in which SSU could only muster two hits.
