For most students, it's the most stressful time of the semester, and I am not talking about the holidays. I'm talking about those pesky, sometimes dreaded things called finals, and SSU students have mixed feelings.

"I am torn because I am looking forward to school being out, but I am not looking forward to taking finals at all," said student Carmen Gutierrez. "Like everyone else, I am pretty stressed out."

It might be hard to believe that finals are next week, but the signs are undeniable. Charlie Brown's cafe and the Schultz Information Center are full of students studying. It seems as though the pace around campus has kicked up a notch. People are walking a little faster, seeming a little more stressed out and dressing down a little bit more.

"It's finally clicking in my head that finals are just around the corner and school is almost out, I am starting to stress," said student Leslie Horwitz.

For some students the stress begins at finals week, but for Hutchins students, finals are over before they began.

"This is the first semester that I do not have to stress over finals because since being a Hutchins major, we don't have finals during finals week, instead we have papers due the week before," said SSU student Jenna Bush. "It is really nice to be out earlier and not have tests."

For the majority of students that do have tests, there are various strategies and approaches students take.

"I am a procrastinator and wait to study the night before the final but I always end up pulling off good grades." Gutierrez said.

"I get motivated when I realize how soon it will all be over. I just think, 'I will be done in one week', and it motivates me to get my work done," said Horwitz.

Also, despite all the stress that comes with the week, there are small perks and advantages. For example, the library is open 24 hours a day, which has proven to be very helpful for students cramming for a final. In addition, Charlie Brown's gives out free food and coffee at midnight some days during the week.
