Every year, one movie stands out as the frontrunner for the Oscars, and this year is no different.

Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" has clearly been the most talked about movie this year. Though controversial, the film has steadily gained popularity and a diverse fan base. The Academy of Motion Pictures seemed to enjoy the film also, giving it eight Oscar nominations, more than any this year. After winning Best Picture-Drama at the Golden Globes last month, "Brokeback" is the critics' top pick. But could the hard-hitting film "Crash" steal the show?

Oscar nominations were revealed early last week in Beverly Hills. Actress Mira Sorvino was on-hand to announce the nominees for the prestigious awards.

For the coveted Best Picture category, the nominees were "Capote," "Good Night, and Good Luck," "Munich," "Crash", and "Brokeback Mountain". Though bypassed at the Golden Globes, "Crash" recently won the Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture. The film taps into the audience's emotional psyche by tackling issues of racism and prejudice. The dynamic cast ultimately creates a thought-provoking piece of film that could potentially win the Oscar for Best Picture.

When it comes to great movies, Steven Spielberg is a leader in every sense of the word. Many critics agree that his latest film, "Munich," is Spielberg's greatest film yet. Revolving around the Israeli hostage situation during the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, this film will leave audiences speechless. If "Munich" snags an Oscar, it will be Spielberg's latest Best Picture win since "Schindler's List" (1993).

Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a riveting performance in the nominated film "Capote." Playing the renowned writer Truman Capote, Hoffman is up for Best Actor, along with Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), and Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line). Film experts favor Hoffman, yet Phoenix's Golden Globe winning portrayal of musician Johnny Cash could win him the Oscar.
