Spurlock's media career has spanned well over a decade. Working for companies like MTV, NBC, FOX, and Sony, Spurlock has gone full circle in the media world. He won Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival for and was nominated for an Academy award for "Super Size Me." The film delves into the issue of obesity in America today and how fast food corporations are making big bucks on big eaters. Spurlock went on a 30-day, all-McDonalds diet and taped his results.
The discussion with Spurlock will take place this Saturday at 3pm in the Cooperage. The topic of conversation is independent media. The discussion will address how media outlets are owned by major conglomerates and their effects on what we as consumers absorb. With major corporations like GE, Viacom, and Time-Warner, do independent media even exist in today's society?
Brought to you by ASP and Project Censored, Spurlock will talk about the responsibilities of documentaries as well as his past and future projects. Students, faculty, and staff can pick up tickets in the Student Union. Space is limited, so like your french fries, you should get tickets while they're hot.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to see Morgan Spurlock right here at Sonoma State. The role of documentaries, and America's obsession with fast food, you're bound to leave the discussion saying "ba da ba ba ba, I'm lovin' it!"
