Week-long breaks are necessary, practical

School is now half way through the semester and all I want to do is scream. It is so unbelievably stressful this semester, I am at the point of pulling out my hair. With everything going on in my life ( schoolwork, my job, friends and the boyfriend), I have no time for myself or to relax. I want a break to get myself back again.

The thought of spring break creeping closer and closer brings tears of joy to my eyes. The thought of getting a whole week off of school is the most beautiful thing. Spring break means a week to sleep in, watch TV, hang out with my boyfriend and friends and to enjoy being 21. It's a week to do basically whatever the hell I want, and it's an amazing feeling to know that in a month I'm allowed to do all those things.

As I sit here and think about how much joy spring break brings to so many students, I wonder why students are not allowed a week off in the Fall semester. We're allowed one in the spring, why not have a week off every semester? A week break is deserved just as much in the fall as in the spring.

In a past Star article about Veteran's Day, Rick Luttmann, a professor here at Sonoma State, expressed his same view about allotting students to have a week off in the fall semester. Luttmann felt as though Thanksgiving vacation should be extended so students can have the whole week off, instead of just a few pathetic days.

I completely agree with Luttmann about giving students a whole week off for Thanksgiving vacation. Students deserve a break, we need a break to recuperate.

Walking into class Thanksgiving week is ridiculous. Attendance is almost non-existent that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday right before Thanksgiving. It is humorous to think that there could be a full class of students somewhere on campus during those three days. A three day week isn't worth going to school for. As bad as that may sound, it's true. We'd rather spend those extra days at home being with family. The students who are in class are usually pissed off because they're there when they want be somewhere else; their only reason for going is the fear of a pop quiz.
