Letters to the Editor #2
Issue date: 5/17/06 Section: Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
In studying urban planning I have learned that an important aspect of any major institution is to be a positive part of the community in which it is a part of. This should include supporting local businesses and acting in the interest of public safety. Thanks to the pettiness of Sonoma State a local business has lost its ability to remain solvent and university students have lost the ability to enjoy a few games of pool, and a couple drinks within walking distance of the campus. Never mind a good meal that's not supersized, or mmm toasty. I guess this means students will not drive through the local neighborhoods after drinking in another city while endangering residents and fellow motorists. That minor oversight is about as logical as believing that no one uses marijuana simply because it is illegal.
Unfortunately SSU is probably the only university campus in the country that does not have an affordable music venue nearby that showcases local bands or simply acts as a hang-out for students. But never fear the Green Music Center is here to hold outrageously expensive concerts where music lovers can drink alcohol, smoke dope and then choose the most sober person to drive them home as a designated driver. Since SSU is handing out corporate gifts don't forget to let Ticket Master in on the scam. I'm sure they'll sell your tickets and give you a "kickback" on all the fees they charge, in turn making concerts at the GMC too expensive for students to attend.
Rock On,
Erik Toumi
