This week another Hitchcock classic, "The Birds," is coming to SSU.
On Sept. 29 at 9 p.m., Associated Student Productions will host the Outdoor Premiere of "The Birds" in the Sauvignon Quad.
The movie is free to all and ASP will be providing the popcorn and the s'mores. All you need is a blanket and someone to hold on to during the horror classic.
"The Birds" is the perfect choice to screen here at SSU because it was filmed locally, out in Bodega Bay.
One of the most chilling parts of the movie takes place in the "schoolhouse," which is actually a church located in the town of Bodega, about 10 minutes inland from Bodega Bay, and only about 30 minutes from campus.
Still as picturesque as the town was when the film was released in 1963, it currently shares the neighborhood with a bar/casino and Northern Light Surf Shop.
The schoolhouse scene is just one of many iconic shots that "The Birds" is famous for, which make it no wonder that the film is still revered almost half a century since it's original release.
The special effects used in the movie may be something out of the Stone Age by today's standards (look for a scene involving a crow and an eyeball), but the cinemetography and brilliant directing outweigh the lack of technology.
At the screening, however, there will be nothing lacking in the technology department. ASP, in association with Campus Moviefest and Residential Life, are going to be giving away a video iPod during the Hitchcock showing, as part of the larger Campus Moviefest event.
