Anything you can do we can do better. Last Friday, Feb. 9, UC San Diego's offense finally awoke after being down early, and never stopped running, while besting the Seawolves' own hot shooting and ending one long, ugly streak against SSU.
Trailing by as many as nine points in the first half, the Tritons shot a blistering 75 percent in the second half to beat the Seawolves 90-76 and put an end to their thirteen-game losing streak against SSU, a streak that began upon joining the CCAA in the 2000-2001 season.
J.T. Tipton continued his fine play of late, leading the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while guard Patrick Mitchell added a career-high 20, as part of SSU's 56.5 percent shooting for the game.
SSU went onto Carson the next night, Feb. 10, in the second game of a back-to-back and lost 79-57 to Cal State Dominguez Hills. The loss drops the SSU men to 9-11 overall, 8-8 in CCAA play, with six games--two at home--remaining in the season, which concludes Saturday, Mar. 3, at Chico State. They will look to snap their two-game losing streak when they visit San Francisco State this Thursday, Feb. 15, in hopes of returning to and finishing above .500 at season's end.
