Dear Editor,

I am writing to protest Mr. Dan Mustaro's subversive propaganda about meat consumption. I don't care about how the animals, where the meat comes from, are treated any more than I care about the kids in third world countries making my shoes.

How else would we be able to enjoy the lifestyles that we do? Do you think we would have 99-cent hamburgers, which we all enjoy as evidenced by our growing waistlines, if meat factories were not allowed to cram cows into tiny stalls to get more meat per square foot? What about the shareholders who invest their hard earned dollars into these farms? Are they not allowed to get the maximum return on their investments by whatever legal means they can? And, why else would God put us on top of the food chain if not to use (and abuse) animals as we see fit?

It's not as if this type of evangelism has not been addressed before. People for the Ethical

Treatment of Animals (PETA) is in the news pretty much weekly ballyhooing the supposedly dastardly treatment of animals. If there was any truth to any of their proposals, and perhaps more importantly, if people gave a damn about any of these issues, would we not be abdicating meat consumption in droves? To the contrary, meat consumption is on the rise and those stalls better get smaller if we are to feed the growing population.
