The men's baseball team started the season hot by going a 6-0 while outscoring their opponents and astounding 66 to 7. The Seawolves were firing on all cylinders until they played an away game in Turlock against Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 15.

The Seawolves were down 3-0 in the eighth inning before getting two runners across the plate. They were down to their last out in the ninth when freshman Cameron Cook had an R.B.I single to tie the game at three and push it into extra innings.

It wasn't until the bottom of the 12th that the Warriors were able to squeak across the game winner on a squeeze bunt to come away with the victory.

Senior pitcher Matt Means, who started the game and did not yield a run, explained that even though the team suffered their first loss, they could come away with some positives. "It was a tough one," said Means, "We battled through the game which was good. We can learn from this one."

While the game against Cal State Stanislaus was a painful loss for the Seawolves, it doesn't take away from the Seawolves hot start.

"The reason why the team has gotten off to such a hot start is because of our offense," said Means. "We've had great run support for our pitching staff. We've also had great defense. We're playing good baseball on both sides of the game."

The Warriors had to follow up their tight victory on Friday with a double header at Seawolf Diamond on Saturday. The Seawolves came out swinging in this one with Kyle Jones leading the charge, hitting his second homerun of the year. That is all starting pitcher Gary Moran would need as SSU cruised to a 13-4 victory. Pitchers Josh Priest and John Bonifacini made their season debuts with a scoreless inning apiece.

The latter game of the doubleheader would be an entirely different story for the Seawolves offense as they rode the starting pitching of Rashad Tucker. Tucker, who's given up only one run on the year, kept the Warriors on their heels with a power fastball and a knee buckling curve for five scoreless innings.
