Senior Andrew Kochevar has reached a goal that only eight other basketball players in Sonoma State history have achieved. In their game against San Francisco State last Friday, Kochevar put himself on the list of Seawolf basketball players that have scored 1,000 points or more in their career. Kochevar is now ranked ninth in school history with a total of 1,017 points, nine points short of Trevor Howe for eighth on the all-time list.

"Over the past four years I have worked extremely hard to get where I am at today," said Kochevar. "It makes me feel good to see that all of my hard work has paid off."

Since his arrival at Sonoma State, Kochevar has stuck to a strict pre-game regimen. "I pretty much go through the same routine every game," said Kochevar. "I eat lunch at Quizno's then before the game I ALWAYS get a Grande Caramel Frap from Starbucks. And 24 hours before tip off, I try not to interact with girls, it helps me stay focused." While some may scoff at superstitions, it's tough to argue with Kochevar's routine that has seen him fight his way into the SSU record books.

Despite Kochevar reaching the 1,000 point club, SSU was unable to pull out the win against S.F. State with a final score of 84-72.

Going into Friday's game, Kochevar had 997 career points and quickly reached the glory of 1,000 career points at 18:04 in the first half from the free throw line. He finished the game with a team high 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting including four buckets made from beyond the arc.

Looking to avenge the loss that the Gators dealt them in their first meeting on Jan. 12, the Seawolves looked to come out strong. The first half was a hard fought battle until S.F. State threw the last punch of the half by finishing on a 13-3 run in the last seven minutes, giving them the 34-29 lead heading into intermission.

Coming out of the locker room the Seawolves quickly cut away at the Gators' lead and tied the score at 38. They couldn't manage to keep up the intensity that they came out with though, and watched the game slip out of hand.
