After graduating a year early from high school Denver was only 17 when she enrolled at Sonoma State University.
"I was young but I was mature and Sonoma was perfect because it was close to home, but not to close," Denver said.
Nearly eight years after she graduated from SSU, Denver is now a professor for the university.
"This town has the same feel as it did when I was here as a student. It's just bigger, a bit more commercial," said Denver.
With so many things learned in college, two specifics stuck out in Denver's mind.
"By the end of my four years, I had been everywhere on campus and it was my experience, and it turned out fabulous," Denver expressed.
Denver remains in close contact with many of the friends she made while at SSU.
She recognized that she had a passion for helping people at a very young age, which has led to her profession as a psychologist and teacher.
"I am very curious about human nature, so I went for it," said Denver.
Directly out of college she entered graduate school and graduated with her doctorate in 2004.
"My family likes to pull the there is a doctor in the family card, but I don't pull it… they are just proud of me," said Denver modestly.
Her dissertation on the phenomenal logical study experience of being born or raised on an inner sex condition has been one of the most rewarding experiences in her life.
"I feel like I am contributing something relevant and I always wanted to be a writer as well, this was a way to combine the two," said Denver.
Her mother and sister are both educators at the college level. Her older sister Jessie is an environmental scientist out of San Jose State University and her mother is the director of the dental hygiene school at Fresno City College.
"My mom led the way for me and my sister. She has always been there," said Denver.
