A message on behalf of colorblind Star readers
Issue date: 3/11/08 Section: Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
I assume it was unintentional but your sidebars, "The Vagina Warriors" and "V-Day Facts" on the front page of the Star [March 4] are very difficult for many of us "Penis Warriors" to read. As you probably know, colorblindness is a sex-linked genetic characteristic. It affects approximately 8 percent of males, but only 0.4 percent of females.
I suggest "How to make figures and presentations that are friendly to Colorblind people" by Masataka Okabe and Kei Ito (http://jfly.iam.u-tokyo.ac.jp/color/) for anyone who presents graphic information to others.
Perhaps Hillary Clinton is the best choice for answering the telephone that is flashing the red light at 3 a.m. Barack Obama or John McCain may not see it as well.
