Mr. Gamma Phi 2008 proved to be both refreshing for the Greek community as well as a very successful philanthropic charity presented by the ladies of Gamma Phi Beta.

Warren auditorium was decorated with pink, black and silver balloons as well a big black banner that spelled Mr. Gamma Phi in sparkly, gold letters. The auditorium was filled with different fraternities coming to support their participating members, as well as the ladies of Gamma Phi Beta lining the left and right sides of the auditorium. In honor of the event the girls wore black dresses with pink accessories.

"Welcome to Mr. Gamma Phi 2008," said Alyssa Mendes, retiring president of Gamma Phi Beta.

The hosts of Mr. Gamma Phi 2008 included previous Mr. Gamma Phi winner and Sonoma State Alum Chipper Baldwin as well as Mendes. Mr. Gamma Phi is a philanthropic event. All proceeds go to a non-profit coeducational organization called Campfire U.S.A. which helps underprivileged children go to summer camp every year.

"Mr. Gamma Phi affects the community positively because it helps raise money for underprivileged children and it helps dispel the negative stereotype of the Greek community. It shows that we can collaborate and have a successful event," said Gamma Phi senior Amanda Witzel.

The contestants included Jose Rivas from Tau Kappa Epsilon, Dan Dupree and Andrew Vazquez from Alpha Psi, Chris Denesha and Scott Cromie from Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Bennett "B" Roth-Newell from Phi Delta Theta, and finally Devon Kreyenhagen and Ken Cook from the baseball team. In support of their favorite participants, the audience and fraternities brought posters and foghorns.

There were a total of five categories that the contestants were scored on including eveningwear, surprise section, question and answer, talent, and sash creativity. The sash creativity kicked off the event as each contestant came out individually with sashes of different colors and sizes. Next was the evening wear portion where "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees filled the auditorium. Yells and hollers from every corner were heard as each gentleman came out wearing their finest apparel and showing their moves on the stage. As each contestant came out, Mendes and Baldwin read off each person's hobbies, clubs and likes.
