Sonoma State's first Multicultural Night, sponsored by the Indian Cultural Club and other multicultural clubs on campus, will be held on Thursday, April 17.

"Our hope for Multicultural Night is to fill out the Cooperage with individuals who are eager and open to embrace a new cultural experience," said the president of the Indian Cultural Club, Areena Lal.

The show will display different cultures coming together to celebrate each person's unique background. The event will consist of various forms of entertainment. Dancing, singing and music, along with a fashion show and different speakers will fill the night.

Professor Leny Strobel of the American Multicultural Studies Department and former Black Student Union President Nick Jones will be the guest speakers at this event.

The organization that presides over all the cultural clubs on campus, the Center for Culture, Gender, and Sexuality (CCGS), will also give a brief presentation.

"I am really looking forward to seeing the outcome of this event. I think all the people who are involved are doing a great job tabling and advertising this new and exciting thing," said junior Courtney Keating.

The Indian Cultural Club started brainstorming for this event in September. Vice President, Amrit Dosanjh, Treasurer Kanta Dugh, and President Lal wanted to bring an event like this to the Sonoma State.

"We took inspiration from similar culture shows offered at larger universities. We decided that SSU cultural clubs should come together too, in a performance celebrating our respective backgrounds," said Lal

After deciding on the type of event they wanted, they started talking to other cultural clubs on campus, urging them to get involved as well.

"Since the first meeting, all the organizations involved have been working very hard to make this event a reality," said Lal.

The clubs involved are hoping to use this event to cross racial and cultural boundaries, culminating in an explosion of diversity and entertainment.
