In only their fifth year of existence, the SSU men's golf team managed to reign in its first CCAA championship. The Seawolves had three golfers shoot under par on the last day of the tournament to squeak past conference rival Cal State Stanislaus by four strokes.
The Seawolves also garnered many awards as head coach Val Verhunce was named CCAA Coach of the Year, Patrick Bauer was named CCAA Freshman of the year, and for the second year in a row, Jarin Todd was named the CCAA Men's Golfer of the Year.
Todd shot 70-72-68 for a total of 210 that was good enough for second place in the tournament. All five of SSU's competitors placed in the top 16.
Accompanying Todd on the All-CCAA team were Kyle Hopkins and Jacob O'Keefe.
The Seawolves resume playing on May 5 in Petaluma for the 2008 NCAA Division II Super Regionals, which they will host at Adobe Creek Country Club.
Entering regional action, SSU was granted the no. 1 seed in the West Region while Stanislaus was given the no. 2 seed.
