Networks aim to impress with fall TV lineup
The time has come to find that remote that's been shoved between the cushions of the couch folks, because the fall TV season is about to begin. Turn on your TV's and set your DVR's because this season could be hotter than ever, with new shows that cater to people of all ages. NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, and the others are setting up the 2011 fall season to be a memorable one.
For the drama lovers and those who crave suspense and romance, there are plenty of new series that will catch your attention. Say you're an airplane admirer, and also admire beautiful women in tight skirts and high heels. Then ABC's new show "Pan Am" is the show for you. It focuses on a time when flying was glamorous and all flight attendants were attractive young females. Christina Ricci, most famous for movies such as "Sleepy Hollow," and "Monster," stars.
Desiring more of a flashy show? Then set your sights on the NBC show "The Playboy Club." This series is based upon the popular Chicago gentlemen's club known as the Playboy Club where men could find escape from reality in their drinks, gambling and the seductive Playboy Bunnies. Set in the 1960's, this series centers on the transformation of American culture and the social challenges that arise for men and women alike.
FOX offers up fantasy and science fiction in its new show, "Terra Nova." In 2149, the world is dying, plants and animals are quickly becoming extinct and for one family the only answer for survival is to travel back in the past, where the only solution for the future of mankind lies.
The CBS show "Unforgettable," stars Poppy Montgomery, most famous for her role as FBI agent Samantha Spade on "Without a Trace." Montgomery's character, Carrie Wells, has the ability to remember every moment and detail of her life, except for the memory of her sister's murder. In the show Wells solves crimes with her amazing talent as she fights to solve the only true mystery in life, her sister's death.
For those of us who love to laugh, there are many shows premiering this season. The Arrested Development die-hards may appreciate NBC's new comedy, "Up all Night" starring Will Arnett. Also accompanying him is A-list actress, Christina Applegate, and SNL funny woman Maya Rudolph, Applegate's boss in the show. The series follows a married couple, Arnett and Applegate, with their first child, and their struggles in trying to find the balance between remaining adults with social lives, and being new parents.
"New Girl," an upcoming show on FOX stars actress Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day. Day moves into an apartment with three single guys after a bad break-up. She has the tendency to trust those when she shouldn't and her awkward but adorable personality brings her group of friends together in the closest of ways.
Who doesn't love drunken night hook-ups that end in awkward yet seemingly intimate relationships? The NBC show "Free Agents," exemplifies this statement as coworkers, Alex and Helen find themselves in a sticky situation after a wild night that leaves them both with feelings of curiosity and disgust.
The X-Factor comes to America! FOX network is broadcasting this nation-wide talent search for amazing singers. Auditions are held in front of thousands, as well as four judges, including Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. A five million dollar recording contract with Syco/Sony Music is at stake.
While these and many other shows debut, a handful of shows begin their final run. Making its last season premiere is ABC's Desperate Housewives. The women of Wisteria Lane will wrap up their stories at the end of this season. Accompanying them are the CW network shows "90210," and "Gossip Girl." The cries of pre-teen girls will be heard around the states as these two popular shows say good-bye. Also ending this season is NBC's ever-popular Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
Though it is time to bid some shows adieu, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Many a new show is around the corner for the Fall 2011 season that may entertain and enrapture audiences.
