Day of Shame: Wrong place, wrong time

Graduation day is an overwhelmingly special day in the life of college students, who have worked for this day for countless years.
Families travel from far away places to come see their loved ones in all their glory. It's the one day that a student can celebrate their accomplishments and set their worries aside for a brief moment of time. It's one of those uber-important days, up there with the day of your wedding and the birth of your first child.
So what would you say if a protest was scheduled at your graduation ceremony? The planned Day of Shame is the topic of discussion, and odds are you have an opinion on the subject.
A school year that has been lush with political and social turmoil is going out with a bang, all because of the decision to acknowledge a huge donor to SSU.
Sandy Weill is a greedy man. He's negatively affected the lives of countless people and is one of the many credited for the financial crisis. He's forced many people to eat Top Ramen while he nibbles on escargot.
Our campus should not reward Weill. Why can't the administration just take his money and run? We know he has done the same to his banking customers, the government and taxpayers.
Exercising First Amendment rights to protest his acknowledgement is the perfect way for people to show how they feel about him.
But this is a case of wrong place, wrong time. The peace should be kept, just for this day. Let's save the controversy for the other 364 days of the year.
Weill doesn't deserve an honorary degree, and I encourage everyone to avoid applauding for him. But come May 12, please take your protest elsewhere.
